How to Keep the Weight Off
Do you struggle to keep the weight off once you have lost it? The key is not to diet but rather to make a few lifestyle changes. A diet can help shake off a few kilograms but then when you stop the diet all the weight comes back with a few extra kilos.
So how do you adapt a lifestyle change you ask… my answer is very simple – follow a keto or low-carb eating plan.
Replace old habits with new healthy habits. At first it is hard but they say it takes 21 days to break or create a new habit. So be consistent and give yourself a chance before you just give up.
Below are a few things I did, in fact i still do them every day.
No Processed Foods
Only eat real food, by this I mean eat things that still look like what they looked like when they were grown; for example gem squash still looks like gem squash or real meat still looks like meat and not some processed tin food. Processed foods contain hidden carbs and are not good for you.
Even sugar free products contain some form of sugar. Learn to read the labels and be informed. For the sake of your blood sugar levels avoid sugar!
Go Low-Carb or Keto
By cutting carbs out of your diet you make it much easier to lose weight. What happens is your body starts using the fat in your body as energy instead of storing it. Low-carb to me means between 30 – 60g of carbs per day and keto means less than 25g of carbs per day (NOT PER MEAL). I personally average about 40g a day. Remember the less carbs, the less insulin, the less fat stored in your body. Simple, right!
Protein at any time of the day
Change the toast in your meal for extra bacon. Why not drop the muffin for an egg instead. The sky is the limit here and all you have to do is use your imagination.
Calm down as stressing releases stress hormones in the body and they make you gain weight!
Water is essential in your body. If you feel hungry have a glass of water and wait a few minutes before eating. You might not even be hungry but rather jut thirsty. Try and aim for 2l a day if you can.
Get off the couch and go walk your dog, it will do you both the world of good. You don’t have to spend hours at the gym but try for at least 20 minutes of daily exercise. Raining outside – no problem, run on one spot in your house or start skipping or do jumping jacks. Sunny days go for a jog on the beach or go hiking on the weekend. But please get active – it really helps with your blood sugar control.
