Being  and living healthy does not have to be difficult.

The two most important objectives you need to stick to in order to lose weight is:

Stay within your daily calorie allowance | Always keep your blood sugar is stable

Why is this important?

Counting calories is a no brainer. Your intake must never exceed your output! If you eat more calories than you are working off, you will store them – it’s as simple as that.

Why must your blood sugar be stable you ask? Well, high blood sugar levels cause your body to store fat! This happens when we eat food that contains refined carbohydrates or sugar, which causes an increase in the blood sugar levels.

You then need to take insulin and insulin is a fat storing hormone. It’s a catch 22 situation. But if you reduce your carb intake, you need less insulin.

How do I count my calories and balance my blood sugar levels?

Plan ahead

When you have a healthy meal plan that you are working on, it is easy to plan ahead and make sure that you have everything you need to prepare your meals for the next few days.

Planning makes life easier and will save you unwanted trips to the store or drive-through.

Portion Control

Remember what I said earlier – intake can not be larger than output! Everything in moderation and that includes healthy food calories. Always watch your portion size or you might end up with the “Chinese Restaurant” situation which Dr Bernstein, author of Diabetes Solution, always refers to.  Don’t be afraid to use your kitchen scale until you are comfortable with judging your portion sizes by eye. This will help when you are eating out.

Portion control will also help with the amount of insulin you need.

Try and be Consistent

I don’t mean eat the same thing day in and day out. I mean, if you have set yourself a goal – stick to it! I know it’s really hard when there are so many tasty foods out there but not all of them are good for your waistline or your blood sugar.

No one is perfect and you might slip up here and there. Pick yourself up and get back on track!

Just think of how much better you will feel the closer you get to your goal. You will have so much more self love and confidence. But it is up to you to make the right choices and decide what is good for you or not.
